Chapter Twenty

Our honeymoon is going by way too fast. I wish it would never end, but we have lives to get back to in Texas. Eloise will be sending me my list of work to do first thing Monday.

Sicily has been amazing. We spent the last few days here out on the water with the wave runners that came with the rental house. There was a ladder built into the rocky cliff that leads to the perfect swimming spot; we had a blast diving off the rocks in the crystal blue water.

We’ve been extra busy with the baby making, christening almost every inch of this villa, inside and out. Who knew trying for a baby could be so fun?

I’ve taken over a thousand pictures in the last six days; I cannot wait to make a big ass scrap book with all the photos from our honeymoon. We lucked out and met some pretty wonderful people here who gladly snapped pictures of Kayden and me as we walked through the streets and down on the beach.

Today we packed up and took a plane to Rome. We decided last minute to spend our last night there because I’ve been dying to explore the ancient ruins. It has always been on the top of my bucket list.

Brooklyn and I always planned on coming to Italy, but never made it past France and Spain. I am obsessed with shows and movies like Spartacus that are based in the Roman times. It fascinates me that these buildings of Roman construction have stood for thousands of years.

We’re walking hand in hand through Rome; I can’t get over how majestic this entire country is. I cannot wait to come back. We just left the Vatican. Seeing Michelangelo’s ceiling in the Sistine Chapel was one of the most astonishing thing’s I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life. As you enter, you can feel the spirit move through your body. It made me so emotional. We’ve also visited The Coliseum and The Roman Forum.

We were able to get people passing by to take our picture in front each of the monuments. Kayden was sure someone would steal my camera, but I had faith. This is the most memorable vacation ever and I get to experience it all with Kayden.

Our cab just dropped us in front of the famous Trevi Fountain. As soon as Kayden agreed to make a day of it in Rome, I told him we had to go to the fountain and make a wish!

I know it sounds silly, but I’m extremely superstitious and believe my wish will come true.

I see a pretty big crowd at the fountain as we approach.

Tugging on Kayden’s arm, I lead him past the fountain and the crowd, “Since there’s a ton of people, lets head around the corner to that Gelato shop I read about on my phone.”

Pulling me against his side, Kayden wraps his hand around my waist, planting a sweet kiss on my lips, “Anything the wifey wants, the wifey shall get. Happy wife, happy husband.” He jokes as we get in line for ice cream.

“Well I’m glad you learned that so fast…and people said men aren’t trainable.” I giggle, as Kayden raises an eyebrow at me and lets out an exasperated sigh as a small smile creeps up on his lips.

With our cups of Gelato from San Crispino’s in one hand and our other hand laced together, we head back down to the Fountain.

As we sit on the stairs to eat our Gelato, I gaze up in awe at the magnificent piece of art. It’s absolutely breathtaking, and I can’t believe the artist Nicolà Salvi sculpted this is 1762, and here we are standing before it in 2013.

The building is gorgeous with giant pillars and is completely covered in large windows on the first and second story. In front of the building is the sculpture that everyone travels here to see. It’s a huge baroque of mer-horses, water splashing up around them, and Tritons along each side of the fountain with a muscular Neptune in the center. Sitting side by side, Kayden and I press our shoulders together and flash big smiles as he snaps a picture of the fountain behind us.

Finishing our gelato, we toss the containers into the garbage and head up to the fountain. Thankfully, the line isn’t too bad. After ten minutes it’s our turn. Legend says if you toss a coin into this Well, you’re guaranteed to return to Rome. There are two traditions, one, you toss just one coin with your right hand over your right shoulder and make a wish, the other is you have to toss three coins in. Not wanting to do it wrong, I decide to toss in three.

Go big or go home!

Standing with my back to the Well, I take the three coins into my right hand, close my eyes and make my wish: ‘Please bless us with a beautiful baby.’ And toss the coins over my left shoulder and into the Well. I hear all three splash into the water, and beaming ear to ear, I jump into Kayden’s arms.

“I can’t believe I finally made a wish in the Trevi Fountain! Fingers crossed, it comes true!” Cupping his face, I crash my lips to his for a quick kiss.

Laughing against my lips, Kayden sets me down and jingling his three coins, stares down at me intently, “What’d ya wish for darlin’?”

Like I’m going to tell him.

“That’s for me to know and for you to maybe find out.” I say matter-of-factly. “Now make your wish, Knox!”

Slapping him on the ass, I get him to get to it and make his wish; we have a line of people waiting behind us.

With a cocky smile he tosses his coins over his shoulder, never taking his eyes off of me.

“There. Happy? I made my wish. Now let’s eat, I’m starving! Let’s go get some real Italian pizza.”
